Jensen Huang throws shade at ‘policy makers’ over NVIDIA (NVDA) exit from China

According to NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, the company is now out of the Chinese AI market. This decision is not because NVIDIA wanted to leave but rather due to external circumstances beyond its control.

The Chinese market remains one of the most booming and profitable markets globally. However, ongoing trade war policies between the US and China, driven by efforts during the Trump administration to bring manufacturing back to the United States, have forced companies like NVIDIA to carefully navigate a challenging landscape.

For NVIDIA, these tensions meant ending its current business operations in China. Huang expressed his frustrations regarding NVIDIA’s situation in China during Citadel Securities’ Future of Global Markets 2025 conference, as reported by Wccftech. During the event, he revealed how political turmoil led NVIDIA to lose a massive opportunity overseas.

NVIDIA has faced significant challenges on both sides of the trade war between China and the US. In April 2025, the US government imposed new export restrictions on NVIDIA’s H20 AI chips that were being sold to China. These restrictions ended up costing the company an additional $5.5 billion in losses.

Despite these setbacks, NVIDIA attempted to salvage the situation. Several Chinese customers were able to obtain licenses to purchase its AI chips. Unfortunately, shortly after, the Chinese government issued guidance advising Chinese companies not to buy NVIDIA’s AI chips. This directive effectively halted NVIDIA’s business dealings in China for the time being.

The complex geopolitical climate continues to pose substantial obstacles for technology companies like NVIDIA trying to operate across these two key global markets.
