### The Story Behind the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup Trophy Controversy

Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) president Mohsin Naqvi has offered to hand over the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup trophy to India. However, there’s a catch — he wants the Indian players to come and collect it in person.

This offer comes after the Suryakumar Yadav-led Team India refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi during the post-final presentation. While India celebrated on the field, Naqvi walked away with the trophy and the individual medals, sparking a significant standoff.

### Meeting Outcome: No Resolution on Trophy Handover

“As ACC President, I was ready to hand over the trophy that very day, and I am still ready now,” Naqvi wrote in a recent post on X. He added, “If they truly want it, they are welcome to come to the ACC office and collect it from me.”

Naqvi’s statement came after the latest ACC meeting held in Dubai, which he chaired. Representing the BCCI were Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar. However, the meeting ended without any resolution.

### Presentation Delay: Standoff Delayed Ceremony

The final’s trophy presentation was marred by an hour-long standoff. India reportedly proposed accepting the trophy from Emirates Cricket Board chairman Khalid Al Zarooni or Bangladesh Cricket Board president Aminul Islam instead.

However, Naqvi stood firm, insisting that he alone would present the prize. Due to India’s reluctance, the presentation concluded without the winning team receiving their trophy or winner’s medals.

Notably, Naqvi not only walked off the stage but also left the stadium with the trophy, accompanied by ACC officials.

### Meeting Remarks: “Felt Like a Cartoon”

During the ACC meeting on Tuesday, Naqvi expressed his disappointment. He said he had arrived on the ceremony podium hoping to hand over the medals and trophy to Suryakumar Yadav and his team.

Instead, he described feeling humiliated as he waited on stage for the Indian players who never appeared. Naqvi also complained about not being informed beforehand about India’s refusal to accept the trophy.

### BCCI Response: Maintaining a Tough Stance

The BCCI has issued a warning to Naqvi, stating that it will escalate the matter to the ICC if the trophy is not returned.

Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar made it clear that the trophy should be handed over to the winning team, emphasizing that it is the property of the ACC, not an individual’s possession.

Despite Naqvi’s grievances, the BCCI officials remained firm on their demand for the trophy’s return. The issue remains unresolved and will be addressed in a future meeting.

### Controversies: India Beats Pakistan Thrice Amid Political Tensions

The 2025 T20 Asia Cup saw intense clashes between India and Pakistan, with India winning all three encounters, including the final.

This iconic cricket rivalry unfolded amid intense political tensions, ranging from boycott calls to on-field verbal exchanges and complaints lodged by both cricket boards.

The hostility between the two countries escalated following the gruesome Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025. India responded with Operation Sindoor, while Pakistan retaliated with drone attacks, further aggravating the strained relations.

The ongoing dispute over the trophy handover highlights the complex intertwining of sports and politics in the region, leaving fans eagerly awaiting a resolution.
