**Gaza: Israeli Airstrikes Kill Six Following Trump’s Call for Peace**

Israeli airstrikes on Saturday killed six people across the Gaza Strip, local authorities reported. The strikes occurred just hours after United States President Donald Trump called for an end to the bombings, noting that Hamas appeared willing to release hostages and respond to parts of a U.S. peace plan.

The Israeli military chief of staff stated that forces were preparing for the first phase of Trump’s plan but did not confirm any reduction in military operations.

**Trump’s Peace Proposal**

President Trump has put forward a 20-point peace plan, giving Hamas a deadline to agree or face “grave consequences.” He urged Israel to halt the bombings of Gaza to facilitate the safe release of hostages.

On his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote, “Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza, so that we can get the Hostages out safely and quickly!” He also mentioned that discussions are underway around broader peace efforts in the Middle East.

**The Ongoing Conflict**

The current Israeli military campaign has resulted in over 6,000 deaths in Gaza, mostly civilians, according to local health authorities. The assault has devastated much of the Gaza Strip, and restrictions on aid have led to famine conditions in some areas.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has stated that Israel will work with Trump to end the war based on principles aligned with the former president’s vision.

**Calls for Negotiations**

Before Israel’s latest announcements, families of hostages held in Gaza had urged Netanyahu to begin negotiations for their release. Domestically, the prime minister faces pressure from hostage families and a war-weary public seeking an end to the conflict.

However, hardline members of Netanyahu’s far-right coalition oppose any reduction in military action in Gaza.

**Background**

The current conflict began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a major attack that killed around 1,200 people in Israel and took 251 hostages back to Gaza, escalating tensions into a protracted and deadly confrontation.
