**Longtime CBS Star Gayle King Reportedly Leaving “CBS Mornings” Amid Network Shakeup**
Longtime CBS star Gayle King is reportedly set to leave *CBS Mornings*, marking the latest major shakeup at the Tiffany Network. According to a Variety report published Thursday, King is expected to step down as co-host of CBS’ flagship morning program next year after more than a decade on the show. The report cites four sources familiar with the plan.
Although King’s contract is set to expire in May 2026, Variety suggests she may remain with CBS News in a different capacity, producing content for the network. This arrangement would be similar to that of Norah O’Donnell, who stepped down as anchor of *CBS Evening News* earlier this year but continued to work with CBS News.
In response to Variety’s report, a CBS News spokesperson told the outlet, “There have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026. She’s a truly valued part of CBS and we look forward to engaging with her about the future.”
King joined CBS News in 2012 and was a key figure in the network’s morning show relaunch, then titled *CBS This Morning*. Over the years, while other co-hosts rotated in and out, King remained a constant presence. However, despite her high-profile connections—such as close ties with Oprah Winfrey—and a reported salary ranging between $10-15 million annually, King has struggled to significantly boost the show’s ratings.
Her expected departure comes just days after fellow CBS News personality John Dickerson announced he is exiting *CBS Evening News*, where he co-anchored alongside Maurice DuBois. Both programs have consistently struggled to compete in the ratings, trailing behind rivals ABC and NBC in the morning and evening news slots.
CBS News has endured a tumultuous year marked by significant legal and corporate upheaval. The year began with a lawsuit filed by former President Donald Trump over election interference allegations, which was ultimately settled by CBS’s parent company, Paramount. Furthermore, CBS News now has a new owner following Paramount’s $8 billion merger with Skydance Media.
David Ellison, the newly appointed CEO of Paramount, recently tapped Bari Weiss to serve as editor-in-chief of CBS News. This move followed his $150 million acquisition of Weiss’s outlet, The Free Press, earlier this month.
In addition to leadership changes, Paramount implemented a harsh round of layoffs this week, cutting approximately 1,000 jobs across the company. Several divisions of CBS News—including its Saturday and livestream programming as well as its Race & Culture Unit—were significantly impacted by the layoffs.
CBS News and Paramount have yet to respond to Fox News Digital’s requests for comment on these developments.
