Eagles wide receiver Jahan Dotson has had an admittedly underwhelming career so far. However, he still showed flashes of brilliance, like the recent play that some are calling a “Moss of the Year” candidate, as described by NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
In that play, Giants cornerback Corie Black had very good coverage over the fourth-year wide receiver Dotson. Still, Dotson went over the top, taking away a potential interception from Black and turning it into a touchdown. This impressive catch would prove to be Dotson’s only reception of the day—a 40-yard bomb that extended the Eagles’ lead to 38-13.
The Giants would later score a touchdown in garbage time, making the final score 38-20. With this win, the Eagles took revenge for their Thursday night loss just a few weeks ago.
Jahan Dotson’s quarterback, Jalen Hurts, finished the day with a strong performance, completing 75% of his passes (15 of 20) for 179 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions.
### Can Jahan Dotson Step Up Without AJ Brown?
If star wide receiver AJ Brown misses more games beyond this one, Dotson will need to step up as the new second option in the Eagles’ passing game. So far this season, the Penn State product has caught just eight passes for 151 yards and no touchdowns back home in Philadelphia.
While his role could increase, Dotson is still likely to be positioned behind DeVonta Smith and even tight end Dallas Goedert in terms of targets.
### Dotson’s Journey to Philadelphia
Dotson joined the Eagles after spending two seasons with division rival Washington Commanders. He was involved in a trade where Philadelphia sent a fifth-round pick in exchange for Dotson plus two seventh-round picks and a third-rounder.
Selected 16th overall by Washington, the team expected Dotson to make an immediate impact. However, his career there didn’t quite meet those expectations, totaling just 1,041 yards over two seasons.
Now, with Philadelphia’s star AJ Brown sidelined, Dotson has a fresh opportunity to make a meaningful impact and prove his value in the Eagles’ offense.
