Apple has unveiled the latest version of its proprietary processor, the M5. This new chip delivers significant graphical upgrades and processing speed improvements over its predecessors, and it powers the newest generation of some of Apple’s most popular products.
According to a blog post on Apple’s news site, the M5 chip features a 10-core GPU architecture that can quadruple the performance of the previous M4 chip. Apple highlights that the M5 was specifically “built for AI” and is capable of handling demanding AI workloads. This includes running Large Language Models and supporting AI features in creative and workflow applications.
Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Technologies, shared insights on the M5’s capabilities: “M5 ushers in the next big leap in AI performance for Apple silicon. With the introduction of Neural Accelerators in the GPU, M5 delivers a huge boost to AI workloads. Combined with a big increase in graphics performance, the world’s fastest CPU core, a faster Neural Engine, and even higher unified memory bandwidth, M5 brings far more performance and capabilities to MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Apple Vision Pro.”
With these advancements, the M5 chip sets a new standard for performance and efficiency across Apple’s latest devices, emphasizing the company’s continued focus on integrating powerful AI features into its hardware ecosystem.
