The US government has reportedly entered into a major new partnership with leading tech company AMD. The US Department of Energy and AMD have agreed to a $1 billion deal in which AMD will build two advanced supercomputers for the federal department over the next few years.

According to a report by Reuters, which cited a statement from AMD and CEO Dr. Lisa Su, the first of these two supercomputers is expected to be ready by 2029. This cutting-edge system will support various critical government initiatives, including the management of the US nuclear arsenal and advancing medical research, particularly in the fight against cancer.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright emphasized the significance of the collaboration, stating that the partnership with AMD will accelerate US technological growth once the supercomputers are implemented. This deal marks another important step in strengthening the nation’s technological capabilities through strategic government-industry cooperation.
