This 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am was restored and assembled by Killer Customs & Performance in 2008, a business now operating as Speedtech Performance in St. George, Utah. The current owner acquired the car in 2024.
Under the hood, this Trans Am is powered by an all-aluminum 572ci Merlin V8 engine paired with a Tremec Magnum six-speed manual transmission featuring a hydraulically actuated McLeod RXT twin-disc clutch and a modified Ford 9″ rear end with a limited-slip differential and 3.70:1 gearing. Recent upgrades installed under current ownership include Holley Terminator X electronic fuel injection, 1,000cc Fuel Injector Clinic fuel injectors, a high-torque mini starter, an ATI Super Damper harmonic crankshaft balancer, an aluminum radiator, and more.
Finished in striking Starlight Black with a gold airbrushed eagle on the hood, the exterior boasts a shaker-style hood, vented front fenders, a front lip spoiler, a rear lip spoiler, and removable glass T-top roof panels. Additional exterior enhancements include remote door poppers, quad exhaust outlets, and gold-finished 19″ Forgeline web-spoke alloy wheels with black faces, mounted with ARP wheel studs and Continental ExtremeContact tires prepared specifically for sale. The rear wheel tubs have been widened, and the lowered suspension features a revised front subframe, aftermarket sway bars, tubular control arms, traction bars, and adjustable QA1 coilovers for improved handling.
Braking performance is upgraded with front and rear Baer big brake kits that include gold six-piston calipers clamping onto slotted and cross-drilled rotors. Notably, some photographs in the gallery were taken prior to the installation of the new tires.
Inside, the cabin is richly appointed with black leather-trimmed front bucket seats and custom individual rear seats. Leather also extends across the dashboard, center console, and door panels. Comfort and convenience features include air conditioning, power windows, a roll bar, and a Hurst shifter. The car’s security and entertainment systems are modernized with a Viper alarm system and a Bluetooth-capable Alpine stereo linked to custom Focal amplifiers and speakers.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames gold engine-turned instrumentation, which includes a 100-mph speedometer, a 10,000-rpm tachometer (replaced in May 2025), and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, voltage, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer reads 49,000 miles, approximately 4,000 of which have been added by the current owner.
Additional engine bay modifications installed mostly in 2025 comprise a 140-amp alternator, a Holley Dual-Sync distributor, dual electric cooling fans, long-tube headers, and a custom dual exhaust system featuring Magnaflow mufflers. Service work also included replacing the ignition switch, installing an Optima Red Top battery with reinforced four-gauge marine-grade wiring terminals, swapping exhaust hangers for polyurethane multi-hole mounts, and replacing the hood release switch.
Driveline reinforcements ensure power is effectively routed to the rear wheels, and recent transmission service included resealing the Tremec Magnum. Some minor cosmetic scrapes are visible on the front subframe.
Extensive documentation accompanies the sale, including recent service records, a detailed modification summary, and invoices illustrating the work performed and upgrades installed. The vehicle is offered on dealer consignment with a clean Montana title.
Please note, the car has not passed a California emissions test.
This beautifully restored and meticulously upgraded 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am represents a rare blend of classic muscle car aesthetics and modern performance enhancements, ready to provide exhilarating driving experiences for its next enthusiast owner.
