2025 NFL Trade Deadline: Who Will Be Buyers and Sellers?
The 2025 NFL trade deadline is set for November 4 at 4 p.m. ET. As always, some teams that consistently perform well are thriving once again, while others have emerged unexpectedly with solid records. Conversely, several teams have struggled—predictably or as major disappointments. This mix ensures plenty of activity at the trade deadline, but the key question remains: who will be buyers, and who will be sellers?
2025 NFL Trade Deadline Sellers
Miami Dolphins
In recent years, the Miami Dolphins have actively used the trade market to add superstar talent such as Bradley Chubb, Jalen Ramsey, and Tyreek Hill. However, this year, the situation is different. Due to their struggles, head coach Mike McDaniel and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa are on the hot seat, and the team is expected to take the opposite approach—selling rather than buying at the trade deadline.
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens have been one of the season’s biggest disappointments. Despite Lamar Jackson leading the franchise and maintaining an extended championship window, this year feels like a lost cause. The Ravens are expected to trade players who are not part of their long-term plans in an effort to build for next season. Derrick Henry is a name to watch; while it would be shocking if the running back is dealt, considering his age and the team’s current status, it’s not entirely out of the question.
New York Jets
The New York Jets stand out as the most obvious trade deadline sellers, currently holding the unenviable spot as the NFL’s lone winless team. Unfortunately, their roster doesn’t feature many tradeable assets beyond their top stars—Garrett Wilson, Sauce Gardner, and Quinnen Williams—all likely off limits. The Jets might need to consider a full rebuild, leveraging their superstars to accumulate draft capital and assets. Their most pressing need is a quarterback of the future, especially after Justin Fields was benched and seems to be faltering in his third NFL stint. The Jets should focus on securing a top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, potentially through some degree of tanking.
Cleveland Browns
Despite a poor record, the Cleveland Browns boast a talented defense. Their offense, hampered by instability at quarterback—marked by having their 41st starting quarterback this century—is their Achilles’ heel. Defensive players from the Browns will attract trade interest. The team already traded cornerback Greg Newsome to the Jacksonville Jaguars and quarterback Joe Flacco earlier in the season. More trades involving Browns defensive players seem likely as they face reality. Although the team gave Myles Garrett a record-breaking contract promising competitive seasons ahead, the current roster construction casts doubt on near-term success.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders executed a notable offseason trade, acquiring Geno Smith from the Seattle Seahawks for a third-round pick. They also denied a preseason trade request from Jakobi Meyers. Now, those moves are proving problematic as the Raiders struggle this season. Smith has underperformed significantly, and it is anticipated that Meyers may be placed back on the trading block. Although Maxx Crosby will always draw trade interest, parting with the defensive end seems unlikely. Despite the talent on the roster, offensive line and quarterback issues have pushed the Raiders into seller territory at the deadline.
New Orleans Saints
Expected to be one of the NFL’s worst teams this year, the New Orleans Saints have not shown enough to change that narrative despite Spencer Rattler’s better-than-expected play. With little hope for the near future, it appears time to start a full rebuild, beginning with selling veterans at the trade deadline. Leading the way should be trading running back Alvin Kamara, whose career has been notable but is now trending downward. Moving Kamara and other veterans would open opportunities for younger players.
Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals gave fans a brief glimmer of hope with two early wins but have since dropped five straight games. At this pace, they are certain to be sellers. Kyler Murray’s tenure as the Cardinals’ quarterback looks increasingly uncertain, and a trade deadline sell-off would confirm that. While there is a chance Murray’s return from injury could revive the team’s season and his future, for now, the Cardinals should be viewed as sellers.
2025 NFL Trade Deadline Buyers
Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts have been the NFL’s biggest surprise so far with a 6-1 record and poised for a postseason run. Daniel Jones has solidified their quarterback position, but they should still look to add talent at the trade deadline to deepen their roster and maintain momentum.
Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills started hot, winning their first four games, but dropped their last two. With Josh Allen historically carrying a heavy load, the Bills would be wise to acquire additional talent to bolster their roster and avoid falling short of a Super Bowl appearance once again.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Reports indicate the Jaguars are fielding trade calls for second-year wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., who has struggled this season compared to his impressive rookie campaign. Moving Thomas would be surprising and possibly premature. More likely, the Jaguars will look to add talent instead of selling at the deadline. Their upcoming bye week gives them time to assess the best direction.
New England Patriots
The Patriots were the biggest free agent spenders in the offseason. Their strategy has paid dividends, and they should continue building by being active buyers at the trade deadline. With offseason additions like Stefon Diggs, Harold Landry, Robert Spillane, Milton Williams, Morgan Moses, and Carlton Davis, New England is in a strong position but likely still looking to improve.
Los Angeles Rams
General Manager Les Snead is known for favoring trades over draft picks. When he has draft capital, he frequently trades it for proven talent. The Rams are thriving this season and appear ready to make another blockbuster deal at the deadline.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Despite injuries to key players like Tristan Wirfs, Calijah Kancey, and several receivers, the Buccaneers have been one of the NFL’s best teams. Their receiving corps—Chris Godwin, Mike Evans, Emeka Egbuka, and Jalen McMillan—could be the league’s best when healthy, but the injuries mean the team may need reinforcements to sustain success. Adding talent at the trade deadline would help them continue winning.
Chicago Bears
The Bears have invested heavily in offensive weapons and offensive line improvements over the last two years. To keep pace in a competitive NFC North alongside the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, and Minnesota Vikings, Chicago likely needs to bolster its defense at the trade deadline.
Philadelphia Eagles
GM Howie Roseman is renowned for making shrewd, bold trade moves, often benefiting significantly over trade partners. After winning the Super Bowl and replenishing talent lost in free agency, the Eagles aren’t done building. If they become buyers at the deadline, it would not be surprising to see them emerge as winners of a major trade.
