11+ Ideas for Christmas Decorating with Ribbons (+ Pretty Ribbon I Have and Love)

**Christmas Decorating with Ribbons: Simple and Festive Ideas**

Let’s talk about Christmas decorating with ribbons! One of the simplest and most charming ways to decorate your home for the holiday season is to tie ribbon around just about anything. It reminds me of the old *Portlandia* series phrase, “put a bird on it” (anyone else remember that episode?) — but today, let’s just substitute “ribbon.”

I thought I’d share some of my Christmas decorating ideas from previous years that I’ve used in our home featuring ribbon. I’ll also include links to the ribbons and some other sources to help you recreate these looks. Even if you aren’t decorating yet (I know, it’s still a bit early for most of us!), it’s always good to start thinking about ideas in advance. I hope this post inspires you with simple ways to make your home feel festive—and, of course, to “tie a ribbon on it” too!

### Stairway Garland
This year, I decorated our stairway garland using a beautiful blue and white striped ribbon paired with traditional greenery and red accents. Here are some of the elements I used:
– **Blue and white striped ribbon**
– Natural garland
– Scalloped shade lamp
– Bunny pitcher with faux greenery and red berries

### Chandelier Bows
For a cozy and elegant touch, I added bows to our chandeliers using:
– Suede velvet ribbon in rich tones
– Blue and white ornaments for a cohesive color palette
– Jute-wrapped chandelier sconce bows

### Sconce and Shade Accents
I dressed up the sconces and lamp shades with khaki velvet ribbon for a warm, understated look. Alongside, I used:
– Similar mini boxwood wreaths
– Lamp bows made from khaki velvet ribbon
– A rattan cart wreath bow

### Chair Bows
To carry the festive theme through the room, I tied suede velvet ribbon around chairs. The combination worked beautifully with:
– Cozy rugs (source and similar chairs linked)
– Garland, window, and door bows

### Window Decor
For decorating window candles and curtains, I chose:
– Black and white striped ribbon for contrast
– Buffalo check curtains paired with suede velvet ribbon
– Matching garlands to frame the windows

### Christmas Tree Bows
For the tree, I love using classic gingham ribbon combined with:
– Lighthouse ornaments
– Various animal ornaments (more available in my Christmas Shop)

### Additional Ribbon Accents Around the Home
Other creative touches include:
– Scarf bows around light fixtures like the brass bunny light, tied with light blue velvet ribbon
– Dehydrated blood orange wheels and faux pears for natural elements
– Rusty red flameless taper candles with amber glass votive holders and battery-operated votive candles
– Brass fox accents paired with blue velvet ribbons and blue battery-operated taper candles

### Bedroom and Living Room Ribbon Decorations
I also added ribbons tied on a bed using teal velvet ribbon to coordinate with:
– Winter bedding (similar options linked)
– Santa stockings
– A red waffle weave blanket
– Gingham Euro pillow shams
– Swiss cross art and wreath bows with light blue velvet ribbon
– Metal whale candlestick bows with black and white striped ribbon
– Blue velvet stockings
– Nutcracker ornaments and additional brass animal stocking holders

I’ll be sharing more ideas soon as I continue decorating for Christmas this year, so stay tuned! In the meantime, you can find lots of inspiration in my [archives here](#).

Happy decorating, and don’t forget to tie a ribbon on it!
