According to estimates from the Congressional Budget Office, these changes will render approximately three million people ineligible for food stamps, also known as SNAP benefits.
**USDA Cites ‘Politicization’ and ‘Inaccuracies’**
The USDA justified the decision by citing concerns over “politicization” and “inaccuracies” in data collection methods. The department stated that the survey questions used to gather information are highly subjective and fail to accurately capture the true state of food security across the country.
Furthermore, the USDA claimed that the data is frequently manipulated to push a narrative that does not genuinely reflect the situation, particularly in rural areas.

Bobby Kogan, senior director of federal budget policy at the left-leaning Center for American Progress, publicly condemned the move on social media. He argued that instead of allowing the annual government survey to reveal rising hunger under Trump’s tenure, the administration chose to cancel it altogether.
