PM Modi welcomes Donald Trump`s plan to end Gaza conflict

After former President Donald Trump announced a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict in the presence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed hope that “all concerned will come together behind President Trump’s initiative and support this effort to end conflict and secure peace.”

Trump and Netanyahu revealed on Monday that they have agreed on a plan to end the war in Gaza. However, it remains unclear whether Hamas will accept the terms of the proposal.

The plan, outlined by Trump, consists of 20 points aimed at ceasing hostilities between Israel and Hamas. It also includes the establishment of a temporary governing board to oversee the war-battered Palestinian territory. This board would be headed by Trump himself and include former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The initiative has received support from several Western nations, including France and Italy, as well as from Arab and Muslim countries such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Pakistan.

If both sides accept the plan, the war is expected to end immediately. Key provisions include the safe return of all captives held in Gaza within 72 hours, whether alive or deceased, and the release of Palestinian prisoners. Additionally, the Gaza Strip would be governed temporarily by a Palestinian technocratic government, with no role for Hamas, and Israel would refrain from annexing Gaza.

During his visit to the White House on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu also extended a formal apology to his Qatari counterpart for a recent military strike targeting Hamas officials in the Gulf emirate. This strike had provoked strong reactions from Arab leaders and led to rare criticism of Israel by the United States.

Meanwhile, the White House has officially released the details of Trump’s plan for ending the Israel-Hamas war and governing Gaza. As of now, there has been no immediate response on whether Israel or Hamas has accepted the deal presented by the U.S. administration.
