Mumbai: Bangur Nagar Police Book Bajaj Allianz Employee For Allegedly Cheating 69-Year-Old Woman Of ₹6.94 Lakh

Mumbai: Bajaj Allianz Employee Booked for Allegedly Cheating Senior Citizen of Rs. 6.94 Lakh

The Bangur Nagar police have registered a case against an employee of Bajaj Allianz for allegedly cheating a 69-year-old customer of Rs. 6.94 lakh under the pretext of offering her a pension scheme. The complaint was filed on September 17.

The accused has been identified as Ashish Tiwari, 34, a representative of Bajaj Allianz residing in Vikhroli West.

Malad Woman Buys Bajaj Allianz Policy

The complainant, Lalita Malhotra, 69, who resides in Malad West, is a teacher for classes from second to eighth standard. Her daughter is married and also lives in Malad West, while her son resides abroad.

In December 2023, Lalita purchased a five-year policy from Bajaj Allianz Finance. The insurance office is located in Sion. She visited the office and paid the first installment of Rs. 61,350 via cheque.

In January 2024, Ashish Tiwari contacted her, requesting payment of the second installment. Lalita informed him she wanted to close the policy and requested a refund. Tiwari then told her that the policy bonus was due and her policy value had increased.

He further assured her that if she paid the remaining installments, she would start receiving a pension from November 2024. Trusting his words, Lalita received a demand letter and transferred a total of Rs. 7.94 lakh via Google Pay to a number provided by Tiwari, in various installments from May 2024 to February 2025.

Insurance Employee Allegedly Diverts Rs. 6.94 Lakh

Later, Lalita and her daughter visited the Bajaj Allianz office in Andheri East and discovered that although Tiwari was an employee of the company, he had diverted the money into his personal account.

While he returned a small portion of the amount, Rs. 6.94 lakh remained unpaid. Following this, Lalita filed a complaint with the Bangur Nagar police.

The police have registered the case under Sections 316(2), 316(5) (criminal breach of trust), and 318(4) (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
