MEA cautions Indian citizens over fake job offers in Iran

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued an advisory following multiple reports of fake employment offers leading to the kidnapping of Indian citizens in Iran.

According to the MEA, several Indian nationals have been lured to travel to Iran with false promises of employment or assurances that they would be sent onwards to third countries for work. Upon arrival in Iran, these individuals were kidnapped by criminal gangs, who then demanded ransom from their families for their release.

The MEA strongly cautions all Indian citizens to exercise the strictest vigilance regarding such employment offers. It is important to note that the Government of Iran permits visa-free entry to Indians only for tourism purposes. Any agents promising visa-free entry into Iran for employment or other reasons may be collaborating with criminal groups.

Indian citizens are therefore advised not to fall prey to such fraudulent offers and to remain alert to such scams.
