Jalgaon: On World Heart Day, Dr Varsha Kulkarni Urges 25 Minutes Of Daily Activity

Heart disease has become a leading cause of death worldwide. A study reveals that approximately 780 people die every 20 minutes due to heart attacks globally.

On the occasion of World Heart Day today, Dr. Varsha Kulkarni, Consultant Cardiac Anesthesiologist and Executive Council Member of the Indian Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Anesthesiologists (IACTA), emphasized the importance of staying active. She urged everyone to resolve to stay active for at least 25 minutes every day to keep their hearts safe and healthy, in line with the “Keep the Beat” appeal.

Every year on September 29, World Heart Day is celebrated across the globe. This year’s theme, “Don’t Miss a Beat,” highlights the critical importance of being constantly aware of heart health, seeking timely treatment, and adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Several risk factors have been identified as the main causes of heart disease, including high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, stress, obesity, lack of exercise, and an improper diet. Experts say that millions of lives can be saved through timely action and the right lifestyle choices.

Dr. Kulkarni explained that the concept of “Don’t Miss a Beat” encourages everyone not to ignore any symptoms of heart disease. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels is essential.

Maintaining heart health requires more than just medication; adopting a balanced lifestyle is crucial. This includes:

– Following a balanced diet and avoiding fatty, oily, junk, and fast foods.
– Limiting excess salt and sugar intake.
– Exercising regularly. Activities such as brisk walking, running, swimming, yoga, or cycling for at least 30 minutes every day can strengthen the heart.
– Managing mental stress through meditation, pranayama, music, and engaging in hobbies to keep the mind calm.

The World Heart Federation also emphasizes the importance of getting enough sleep for heart health.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the World Heart Federation. To commemorate this milestone, a special appeal called “Keep the Beat” has been launched. Dr. Varsha Kulkarni encourages everyone to take this appeal seriously by committing to 25 minutes of daily physical activity to promote a healthier heart.

Let us all join hands in celebrating World Heart Day by embracing these heart-healthy habits and ensuring that we never “miss a beat.”
