### What’s the Story?

Indian cricket T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is currently experiencing a rough patch. His recent performances in the ongoing T20 Asia Cup have been underwhelming, with scores of 0, 5, and 12 in his last three innings. Overall, Yadav has managed to score just 99 runs in 10 innings this year. As India prepares to face Pakistan in the T20 Asia Cup final, it’s essential to analyze and decode SKY’s poor run in T20 internationals in 2025.

### Performance Analysis: His Batting Style Has Been His Undoing

Suryakumar Yadav, who earned the ICC T20I Player of the Year award in both 2022 and 2023, has been far from his best this year. According to ESPNcricinfo, he averages a mere 12.37 in T20Is throughout 2025, scoring just 99 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 110.

One of the reasons for his struggles seems to be his batting style, particularly his reliance on premeditated shots such as the pick-up flick, which have backfired on numerous occasions. Notably, Yadav’s last significant score came against Pakistan in a group-stage match where he remained unbeaten on 47.

### Struggles: Three Ducks in 2025

The unbeaten 47 against Pakistan remains Yadav’s best T20I score in 2025. Shockingly, he has failed to reach 15 runs in any of his other nine innings this year, including three ducks. Another interesting fact is that Yadav hasn’t played a single T20I match outside Asia in 2025, with five of his appearances being on Indian soil.

Despite Yadav’s poor form, the Indian team has performed exceptionally well, winning 10 out of their 11 T20Is this year, including a nail-biting Super Over victory.

### Performance Disparity: Stellar IPL Season but Struggles at the International Level

Yadav’s slump at the international level is particularly surprising given his outstanding IPL season. He scored 717 runs for Mumbai Indians at an impressive strike rate of 167.91, including a streak of 16 consecutive innings with 25 or more runs.

Unfortunately, this rich vein of form has not translated into his international outings, where he is currently enduring an unprecedented run of 13 T20I innings without a half-century.

### Career Overview: Here Are His T20I Stats

Despite the current slump, Suryakumar Yadav’s overall T20I career statistics remain exemplary. Across 89 T20I matches, he has amassed 2,669 runs at an average of 37.59, including 21 fifties and 4 centuries. His career strike rate stands at an impressive 164.65.

Yadav also holds notable records in the shortest format, sharing the third-most Player-of-the-Match awards (16). Additionally, he is the only player to have scored T20I centuries in four different countries: South Africa, England, New Zealand, and India.

As the T20 Asia Cup final approaches, all eyes will be on Suryakumar Yadav to see if he can rediscover his form and lead India to victory.
