The FCC Has Leaked the Upcoming Apple Vision Pro 2
Despite its notable absence at the iPhone 17 launch event in September, the Apple Vision Pro 2 is real. Apple has been quietly working on a refresh of its premium Mixed Reality (MR) headset, and a recent leak from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) confirms that the new headset won’t be anything groundbreaking.
According to the FCC documents—leaked despite Apple’s request for privacy—the Vision Pro 2 will be very similar to its predecessor. In fact, it may even retain the hefty $3,499 price tag, which raises concerns about its market appeal right from the start.

### What to Expect from Vision Pro 2
Previous reports suggest that the primary reason the Vision Pro 2 exists is to help Apple remain relevant in the Extended Reality (XR) industry. Apple’s real focus lies elsewhere—CEO Tim Cook’s latest obsession is reportedly developing a consumer version of AR smart glasses aimed at competing with Meta.
One rumored change includes dropping redundant features like EyeSight, which is the external display on the headset that shows your digitized face to others. When the original Vision Pro launched, it faced criticism for having an overabundance of sensors—typical for a first-generation product. Removing some of these sensors could help reduce the cost of the Vision Pro 2 and potentially streamline the design.
### Performance Upgrades
The Vision Pro 2 is expected to launch before the end of the year, around the same time as Samsung’s Project Moohan XR headset. This new model will upgrade from the M2 chip in the original Vision Pro to a more powerful M4 processor, featuring a 2-nanometer chip to enhance the headset’s capabilities further.
### Market Challenges Ahead
Despite the hardware improvements, the Vision Pro 2 faces significant challenges. The limited variety of content available on the Vision Pro platform, combined with the much cheaper Meta Quest 3, could hinder its sales—even if Apple maintains the high $3,499 price point or lowers it slightly. That said, Apple will benefit from valuable user data gathered from early adopters of both the original Vision Pro and the upcoming Vision Pro 2.
However, Meta continues to hold a massive advantage due to its dominant share of the XR market.
